These are pictures of the country between Tirana and Durres. During the 50 years the Communists ruled Albania they built thousands (I'm not exaggerating) of small pill boxes. I think they felt they would be invaded by the West at any moment.  These pictures show two of the dozen or so I saw on the trip back to Tirana from Durres. Also note in the third picture the Mosque up on the hill. Albania is 70% Muslim.
